Broom Finish
A broom finish is a common choice for pathways thanks to the grip it offers underfoot. Dragging a broom across the surface once it’s floated creates fine texture lines, which is especially useful on pathways that see foot traffic in wet weather, like routes to the clothesline or side gate.
Exposed Aggregate
Exposed aggregate brings a natural, textured look to a pathway by revealing the stone within the concrete. It’s a popular option for garden pathways and entertaining areas, where a bit more visual interest suits the surrounding landscaping.
Cove Finish
A cove finish gives a pathway a soft, hand-worked texture. It’s created using a trowel in circular and semi-circular overlapping strokes once the surface has been floated, giving the path a distinctive feel that’s different from a standard broom finish.
Coloured and Stencilled Concrete
For pathways that tie in with garden design or outdoor entertaining areas, colour and stencilled patterns are worth considering. Colour can be worked through the concrete for a consistent tone along the whole path, while stencilled designs add a decorative touch that can complement paving, garden beds, or outdoor living spaces.
